The Ford Diesel Engine

The Ford 1.6 litre diesel engine has become a very popular engine; it is available in all models throughout the Ford Range. The engine is made at Ford’s historic Dagenham car plant, where the engine is then shipped around the world and found in many Ford dealers in Birmingham.  The Dagenham plant is also very environmentally friendly; the majority of its power is wind generated and environmentally friendly.

The Dagenham plant can build 1,000,000 engines a year, and with all the wind turbines working it will double its CO2 savings from 2,500 tonnes to 5,000 tonnes per year. The 1.6 litre diesel engine will be proudly displayed in the Fiesta, Focus, Grand C-Max and S-Max at EcoVelocity this month.

The 1.6 litre diesel engine is getting a lot of praise for its low CO2 emissions, low fuel consumption and excellent performance. The engine in the Ford Fiesta only emits 95g of CO2, in the Mondeo it emits 114g/km – in the first 2 years, the Mondeo is exempt from road tax, after this period it is only £30 a year!

Chris Wollacott, Ford Dagenham Diesel Centre manager, said: "The Dagenham Diesel Centre assembles Ford's greenest engines, which return over 76mpg. Rising demand has prompted the extra turbine to maintain the plant's green energy source."

The following Ford models will be on show at EcoVelocity:

  •          Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCi ECOnetic (95PS, 95g CO2/km)
  •          Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi Titanium X (Auto-Start-Stop, 115PS, 109g CO2/km)
  •          Ford C-MAX Grand 1.6 TDCi Titanium (seven seats, 115PS, 109g CO2/km)
  •          Ford S-MAX 1.6 TDCi Titanium X Sport (Auto-Start-Stop, 115PS, 114g CO2/km)
